Block 2 - Week 1

Usually the first week after a rest week is pretty rough for me.  I don’t know why, but rest always seems to inhibit my training.  However, if I don’t get rest, then I end up over-trained or injured.  It is a strange conundrum that I have yet to figure out.  Fortunately, this week was not as rough as I had originally anticipated.  Once again, I was able to complete each of my scheduled workouts in their entirety.  I have no doubt that eventually there will come a day or two that I will be unable to finish a workout, or I will have to take a rest day…but until then, it is nice to have gone 5 weeks without missing a day!  Here are week 2 totals:

Swim - 4900 meters

Bike - 94 miles

Run - 19.5 miles

Weight - 181lbs (From 180lbs…I know I know, I’ve gained back 2 pounds…I don’t understand it!!)

5:30am tomorrow starts off Week 2 of Block 2 with a 2400 meter swim and a 4 mile run…not to mention a Functional Anatomy Exam!!

Happy Training!

Week 3 Recap

Well, week 3 turned out to be almost exactly as expected.  After working out 6 days a week for two weeks, and then moving into the third week, without any extra rest…I was fatigued.  Each workout seemed exhausting, but if I kept the intensity low enough, I was able to stretch out the duration and reach my goal distances.

Week Highlights:

1.  I worked out for three weeks straight, for a total of 33 workouts, and didn’t miss a single day!

2.  I am very much excited for this rest week, I hope to regain my strength back so I can push it harder during Block II training.

Week Frustrations:

1.  I am disappointed with my endurance levels.  During triathlon season just a few months ago, it seemed I was able to sustain higher intensity workouts with much less fatigue.

2.  I am still struggling with the early mornings.  I hope within a few weeks to be used to getting up before 5am.

Week 3 Totals:

Swim - 4500 meters

Bike - 84 miles

Runn - 16 miles

Weight - 179lbs (1lb total loss)

Happy Training!

Goals

I guess I need to start this blog by outlining my ultimate goals.  Ironman Texas is only 7 months away!

Goal 1 - Finish Ironman Texas in 13 hours or less.

Goal 2 - Lose 15lbs.  I currently weigh 180lbs, so I’d like to be 165lbs on race day.

Goal 3 - Complete Ironman70.3 Muncie, IN in 5 hours or less.  I need redemption from last year’s poor performance.

These are my goals.  I know that it will take an incredible amount of dedication to reach them.  Between working and going to school full time, it is going to be hard to manage my time.  But I am looking forward to the challenge!  Week 1 training has begun!
