Block 3 Recap and other stuff
Well, it has been 27 days since I last posted! Things got really crazy in my life, which prevented me from keeping up with this blog. I’m not really one for excuses, but here are some “reasons” that I haven’t been posting! :) First, I had a med school interview (which went really well by the way), then finals rolled around, and then graduation…lastly, and most importantly…I got sick. I am not a person who is prone to sickness, but when the increased training volume combined with the increased study volume (finals!!!), the lack of sleep and constant fatigue resulted in a suppressed immune system.
It started as just a little cold, but that cold continued to increase in severity, ultimately persisting for about 2 weeks. At the end of that 2 weeks I got an additional stomach/flu virus. I was puking my guts out and unable to eat for several days. This of course only further increased my fatigue because I was unable to eat! Obviously, because of all this my training suffered tremendously.
On the up side, I graduated!! Not only did I graduate, but I finished with a 4.0 GPA!! Rumor has it, I am only the second person to graduate with a 4.0 from the SVSU biology department in the last 25 years! Not sure if that is 100% legit, but if it is…pretty cool! :) Also, I’ve been accepted to 3 medical schools at this point! Michigan State University, Oakland University, and the University of Cincinnati! I am really excited and relieved to have options. I never thought I would get accepted to more than one med school.

I am still upset about my training, however. Being sick for 3 weeks has set my training schedule back 6 weeks. I still have enough time to reach my distance goals, but I feel like my overall fitness will be less come race day. Oh well, there is no way I can change the situation, so I have to adapt and keep moving forward! Less than 5 months till Ironman Texas!!
Here are my Block 3 Totals…keep in mind I was sick for much of it!
Swim- 17,400 meters
Bike - 397 miles
Run - 56 miles
Here is the total volume I have put in so far. These numbers aren’t completely up to date because I am already half-way through Block 4…those totals will come later.
Swim - 47,650 meters
Bike - 976 miles
Run - 172.5 miles
I hope everyone else’s training is going better than mine! My Block 4 update should be coming soon!
Happy Training and a Happy New Year!!
