An Average Ironman

Block 2 - Week 3

Despite injuring my neck, I have still been able to complete every workout on the schedule.  There have been times when I have been in considerable pain, but if there is one thing that triathlon teaches you, it is pain management and strength of will (but I guess that’s two things isn’t it?).  I take Flexoral and Ibuprofen everyday, and that seems to help. I would say that my neck is about 70% recovered at this point. Hopefully it will be fully recovered by next week when I start Block 3.

Blocks 1-3 are my “Base” phase, and Blocks 4-5 are my “Build” phase.  Blocks 6-7 are my “Speed” phase.  Block 3 is kind of scary for me because I will be entering all new territory on the bike and swim.  I have never swam more than 3000 meters or biked further than 75 miles, and I will break both of those distances during Block 3.  I have never run further than 20 miles either, but thankfully I wont have to break that distance until Block 5!

Below is a pic of me on my new bike set-up!  I think I look much more aerodynamic than I did before!

Block 2 - Week 3 Totals:

Swim - 5700 meters

Bike - 115 miles

Run - 23 miles

Currently I am enjoying the down time my recovery week affords me by writing papers and studying for exams!! YAY! (note the heavy sarcasm…)

Happy Training Everyone!
