Weight Problems

I don’t understand my body!  During the first few weeks of training, I was steadily losing weight.  However, over the last several weeks, I have gained back all of the weight I lost, plus a few extra pounds.  It doesn’t make sense, especially because I have been putting in more miles running/biking/swimming than I did in those first few weeks…and my diet hasn’t changed.

I thought I could manage my weight loss by just eating healthy and trying to avoid pigging out or eating junk food.  However, it doesn’t look like that approach is going to work for me.  I am going to have to actually start a strict, calorie-counting diet.

So here is my diet plan.  I am going to try to stick to eating only 1800 calories a day.  Plus, I will add an additional 50 calories per 400 meters swimming, 50 calories per mile running, 75 calories per 15 minutes of biking, and 200 calories for a weight lifting day.  Take tomorrow for example:

- I start with 1800 calories

- Add 200 calories for the 1600 meters of swimming I will do

- Add 300 calories for the 6 miles I will run

- Add 200 calories for the hour of weight lifting I will do (shoulders/back/abs)

Therefore, tomorrow, I can eat a maximum of 2500 calories.

Hopefully this diet plan will allow me to realize my weight-loss goals, but still keep me fueled up enough to complete each workout.

Happy Training!
